The greatness of Weird Tales is a force of nature. Yet, what were its origins?
I decided to go through and do a reading of the entirety of "The Dead Man's Tale," by Willard E. Hawkins, the first story printed in the first issue of Weird Tales.
It's a nice little novelette of revenge from the grave, with a surprising ending.
One odd thing about it, it has two "Chapter 7s." I don't know if it was an editing mistake or what, but it doesn't seem to be some kind of clever trick, like portraying the same events from two different perspectives. In the reading, I simply omitted the first "Chapter 7" division because it was exceedingly short and followed immediately, with no time gap, from the end of Chapter 6.
