Welcome! You are here because you want to see how I might be able to help polish something you are writing.
My Fiverr gigs can be found here. There is one gig intended for short pieces and another for long pieces.
My editing services have several different aspects, and I will demonstrate them here.
First, examine this document. This is one page from the first draft of my first novel, that I retyped without looking at it, to demonstrate the kinds of typos that might show up in a very rough draft. You'll see a lot of mistakes, but that's the idea. Some of these misspellings would be picked up by an automated spell-checker. However, some would not, such as the word "hand" on line 13 which should be "had," or how on line 17 there is a misplaced space which turns "and laid" into "an dlaid," which a simple spell-checker might turn into "an laid."
Other examples of similar errors I've seen would be writing "hit the breaks" instead of "hit the brakes."
My most basic service includes a read-through of the work, in an attempt to root out and eliminate these kinds of errors. This service is intended for customers who either 1) have a nearly-finished work on their hands and only want that final polish from a fresh set of eyes, or 2) want objective mistakes fixed without risking any change to the voice or tone of the work.
After this most basic stage, the example work would look like this. I've highlighted the fixes so that you can see them more easily.
There are several more time-intensive and detailed examinations of a work that I can also provide.
I can go through and examine the work for syntax and other broader linguistic problems. This would include looking for awkward or run-on sentences, finding repetitive word use, looking for redundancies, and other broad suggestions. This is more useful for works in mid- to late-edits, where repeated reading has made certain constructions seem more natural than they are. I will examine the work sentence by sentence and make suggestions (via comments or some other mutually acceptable means) as to how to improve these aspects of the work.
Further, I can go through and provide paragraph or sentence level comments about various types of potential improvements to the work. This would include comments about point of view, increasing character engagement in the work, tone inconsistencies, etc. This service is intended for works in early- to mid-editing stages.
I have made a set of comments for the earlier example. See that version here.
There are comments illustrating linguistic issues, such as comment #2: " 'had had' is sometimes necessary, but seemingly not here," and comments suggesting improvements, such as comment #1: "Could you use his expertise or experience as a doctor to make this description more personal?"
After looking at these examples, you should have a better idea which service or services you would like for me to apply to your work. I look forward to hearing from you!
P.S.: Another point that might be worth making is that I'm fairly good at dealing with technical jargon. My Ph.D. in physics gives me especially good insight into terminology in that field and related hard sciences, but I'm also very used to reading articles that use lots of jargon and am experienced at figuring out what it means and determining whether or not it's used correctly.
