About Me

Heyo, my name's Rudolph Kohn, but you can call me Rudy.

When I was a kid, there were two things I wanted to be: a scientist and a writer.

I spent all of my time during primary and secondary school working toward being a scientist.  I took every science class I could get into.  Then, I spent five years in undergrad and nine more in grad school getting my Ph. D.  I'm an experimental physicist, and I do feel a little pride in that accomplishment.

In my darkest moments of grad school, when I wasn't even sure I'd graduate, I turned back to writing.  I wrote two novellas and some short stories, but I only published one novella then.  That was my first thing on Smashwords, and I was so broke that I hand-drew my cover, despite having no artistic talent whatsoever.

I finally did graduate with my Ph. D., and writing went back to the back burner.  I found a job as a contractor and I paid off my student loans and even managed to save a little bit.

But one of the other things I stumbled into in grad school was the philosophy of liberty.  As I found myself stumbling into the workforce, I knew I didn't want to work for the government forever, but I felt like I had to build up a little nest egg before I tried striking out on my own.

A little over a year ago, I made my intentions clear at my workplace.  I was leaving, with the goal to try writing a bit at first.  Since then, I've been trying to get as much writing practice as possible, and, as of this writing, I've put up several short stories and two new novellas at Smashwords.  I've even learned a bunch about making eBook covers.

That brings us to now, June 2023.  This blog covers my fiction writings, including short stories, previews of my longer stuff, and some bits of analysis here and there.

I'm glad you found your way here, and I hope my writings can provide you with a little enjoyment.  I like science fiction, and I try my best to carefully plot things so everything makes sense.  I also like slower, more methodical pacing, so I hope you do, too, or at least you're willing to try it.

Thanks for visiting!

P.S. If you want to read my economics and philosophy stuff, that's all on my other blog.
