Adapting a work from one medium to another is a difficult and not-necessarily-straightforward task.
In this short video, I discuss some of the different forces that pull an effort at adaptation in various directions, between novelty and faithfulness, for instance. I talk a bit about how an artist in one medium might have different ideas on how to best get across certain elements in that medium, as compared to the original creator in the original medium.
There are times when adaptations can go off the rails, but even good-faith disagreements between artists can pull a work in a number of different directions.
